Salt Building in Olympic Village becomes CRAFT beer market.
It's finally open! After delays over the summer the old Salt Building in Olympic Village has reopend it's doors as CRAFT beer market. I had the opportunity to swing by last night, and it's awesome. Apparently carrying Canada's largest selection of draft beer, CRAFT has 2 other locations in Calgary and Edmonton. They have 140 beers on tap at the new Vancouver location, 55 of which are BC brews!
I haven't eaten there yet, however the menu looks top notch. They seem to be focussing on locally available ingredients whenever posiible, which I support. As I looked around I noticed many people eating and their dishes looked A+. I'm currently on somewhat of a quest to track down Vancouver's best nacho's, so I look forward to trying their "Nacho Barrel"
The space is huge at 13,000 sq ft, and they have seating space for 400 with another 50 spots on the patio. Large exposed beams are what really stand out in this space. They have retained much of the original beam work from the 1930's. Also cool are the tap lines which run from the keg area at the front over to the bar. Instead of running them underground they run above, in a clean and fairly impressive display.
Vancouver Salt Company- Back in the day
Among their 140 beers, they have Steigl on tap! Normally only available to us in 500ml cans, this is apparently the first time the Austrian brewer has shipped kegs in 500 years! Not bad at all. I tried the "Beer Flight" which is a weekly rotating sampler of 6 4Oz beers.
Great place, check it out! www.vancouver.craftbeermarket.ca
